The brand new light-weight equipment of the CPR was put on a cross-country tour in the fall of 1936.
This photo shows the train set in Montreal just prior to the start of the tour.

  • A lightweight "streamlined" train in Late "Art Deco" sytle.


  • One of 4 streamlined "fast inter-city" trains developed in the 1930's economic austerity era, this particular train operated between Calgary and Edmonton, on speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour.


  • The interiors are simple in decor and painted panels - no exotic varnished woods in this era.


  • These were the first air-conditioned trains, since the windows were sealed.
